Labor Day weekend getaway to New Glarus, WI

We took advantage of the long holiday weekend and went camping with good friends of ours, Sarah and Phil, in New Glarus, Wisconsin. The town is known as “Little Switzerland” as it was founded in the mid-1800′s by immigrants from the town of Glarus, Switzerland. Only about a three-hour drive northwest of Chicago, it’s a quick trip and an easy destination for a long weekend.

Unfortunately it rained for the first night and the entire first full day, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying ourselves! We spent a lot of time in the town visiting the various pubs and restaurants, took a tour of the famous New Glarus Brewery (Home of the fairly well-known Spotted Cow, Uff-da, and Moon Man), and visited the model Swiss town (it was “pretty cool”). The rest of our trip was spent at the campsite, sitting around the fire, listening to music, and drinking plenty of New Glarus beer.

Fire + Beer + Music + Friends — couldn’t have asked for a better Labor Day weekend.
